With Classipress classifieds site, you have the option to automatically delete an ad after a specified period but it will not be good in the eyes of the search engine and SEO as a whole. This is so because, your deleted ad would still come out in search engine result and once clicked the searcher will then be directed to the 404 error page. Also, if you opt to have the ads deleted, your content will also be diminished and again not good for SEO.

For this reason and since my classifieds site is a free service, I choose not to delete the ads. I just inform my classifieds site visitor that the particular ad is already old. And for this, I use a plugin called the Old Post Alert Plugin.

The Old Post Alert plugin works by showing a note in your comments form for posts/ad that is more than a month old. The note will remind your classifieds visitors that there may be newer information of the ad that they are looking at and they must contact the ad owner directly. This old ads alert note may cut down on comments or inquiries that are irrelevant due to more recent status of the ad.

Installation of the plugin is easy. Just download the plugin archive and expand or you can just install it automatically through your plugins’ dashboard. Activate and you have now installed the Old Post Alert.
